Link Rain, Rain go away and come back another day... Gay day at the Arizona Renaissance Festival is one of the most interactive entertainment times ever. It is this Sunday, March 7th. We planned to have a van to take you there. However, with the more than 50% chance of heavy rain, low sign up, and even some cancellations, I have decided to pull the plug on our trip to the Festival. If the weather improves, I still plan to attend. For your information, the Festival closed last Sunday due to the rain and I am a bit concerned they might do it again
Link The first weekend in March brings another chapter of In the Life Friday at midnight on channel 8, KAET. In this episode they investigate Bullycides, a term recently coined to address the national health crisis of young people taking their own lives as the result of bullying, followed by the premier of In The States, a series focusing on the struggle for LGBT civil rights at the state level. In another chapter, Studies show that youth who are bullied are five times more likely to be depressed and to report suicidal thoughts. LGBT children and those who are perceived to be gay, lesbian or challenge traditional gender roles are among those most likely to be targeted by bullies. In this look at the most tragic outcome for kids tormented by kids, we meet heartbroken families fighting for federal legislation to protect their children. Also see the first installment of this series takes us to Ohio, a state ranked among the worst for LGBT rights. Ohio legislators not only banned same sex marriages but barred unmarried state employees from receiving benefits for domestic partners; transgender Ohioans lack basic civil rights including the right to correct their birth certificates and LGBT people can be legally fired from their jobs because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. In this look at the gay experience in the heartland, we meet locals with deep ties to their community organizing for equal rights.

Zanna, Don't! is set in a world where homosexuality is the norm, and heterosexuals are considered an oddity. The town is called Heartsville, USA. All of the characters are homosexual, or so they think, until one bold student writes a musical about forbidden heterosexual attraction in the army, and the true, closeted desires of two of the cast members come to the surface. This sharp satire presents a world much like the real one, depicting the chaos that ensues when people love who they want to, gay or straight. This show is aimed at teens and adults. This show runs through April 25th on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday Afternoons at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre, 4720 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251 One member of our movielist said, "Hi Robert, you missed this one from the Echo. I saw it opening night, the 5 guys on stage are so flamboyant!!" Guess, I am going to have to see this one...

Are you in need of a few laughs? Well, you’re in luck! The Broadway smash "Avenue Q" is coming to ASU Gammage from March 9th until March 14th. And just a warning – the show may star puppets, but it’s definitely not Sesame Street! The show contains adult language and content, and may not be suitable for the little ones. AVENUE Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There's Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod -- a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. Chick the link for tickets.

Link The women of AZWIT proudly present our March concert. The March concert is presented in honor of Women’s History Month and will examine the journey of fear, chaos and even joy that comes with life threatening and life changing illness. We chose the intriguing title Exquisite Journey: Fierce Beauty, because our desire is to present the intensity and fierceness that the human spirit displays during these times. We often find that these journeys lead to an outlook, both of the illness and the outcome that is stunningly beautiful in its appearance, both spiritually and physically. The centerpiece of the concert will be Diane Benjamin’s Where I Live: A Breast Cancer Oratorio. This amazing work brings together strings, percussion, choir, soloist and narrator in a stunning musical/spoken word offering that leads us through the uncertain journey of illness and recovery. The second half of the concert offers music that will be a celebration of the determination and resiliency of the human spirit. We are often afraid of the emotion that accompanies these kinds of illness, but we know from experience that comfort and peace are found in community, so whether you are a survivor or a supporter, plan now to be part of this very moving event. Kim Mc Creary is the Artistic Director. The concert is March 12, 13, 2010 at.7:30 pm at Faith Lutheran Church.
